With everybody anticipating the long awaited Easter break, some don’t even really know what Easter means. It’s all about the break for part of Dixie High’s student body and staff while much of world celebrates the religious holiday.
Easter is the day where most of the U.S. and world wake up in the morning to an Easter basket lying outside their door or even in some cases hidden in the house where the person has to find it if they want it.
This is the day where Easter egg hunts are performed and it’s the traditional act to eat candy.
But why is this day here and what does it mean? What does the Easter bunny represent? This article is here to answer these questions.
Easter is celebrated the day the Christian world celebrates Jesus rising from the dead on the third day after his crucifixion. His resurrection is celebrated on Easter Day or Easter Sunday. This day isn’t fixed to the calendar. It occurs on a different day usually every year. The date of Easter was set to happen on the first Sunday after the full moon and after the northern hemisphere’s vernal equinox.
The Easter bunny came from the world of the Christians. It extended from there and is known as one of the official and main symbols of Easter. Rabbits and eggs are the symbols of the fertility goddess, Ostara. Easter is also a day when most people attend church services. It’s usually that way because that’s when a lot of family members get together.
When talking to sophomore Brittany Clark she explained what she loves about Easter, “I hardly celebrate Easter, but I like the break and the extra days off from school. I also like stealing my brother’s candy!”
Hopefully this answered a lot of question. Everybody have a great Easter weekend and break. Decorate some eggs, eat some candy, and get on hoppin’!
