Spring break isn’t the only thing occupying most of Dixie High School’s students' minds. Besides the fact that the quarters almost over, the air is starting to heat up, which means it’s the perfect time start getting ready for the spring sports that will be starting soon.
It’s the time of the year where soccer balls are being passed on the field, bats are being swung, rackets are being used on the tennis court, and the track isn’t looking so lonely anymore. Spring won’t be a very boring time of year since there’s gonna be so many sports to look forward to during the last couple months of school.
Soccer can be challenging, especially when it comes to the other schools we have to go up against said Cutter David, a sophomore. “Especially when it’s semi-finals, those are the hardest teams,” he went on to say about who the hardest school to beat is, which happens to be all of the ones that get to semi-finals. He pours his heart into the field when he’s on it, giving it his best.
Soccer isn’t the only sport being talked about. McKay Brown, a senior, is on the tennis team, and is very good at it. When he’s on the court many things run through his mind, but there is something that he is constantly focusing on when he’s on it. “Focused on winning, obviously. Also, getting at the opponents weakness and moving my feet.” Brown explained.
Softball is a huge spring sport that everyone knows about. The softball girls at Dixie High School get pumped up over the season, conditioning and making sure they’re ready for the teams they’re going to be facing. “It just gets really intense and suspenseful when the ball is coming.” Megan Sorensen, a junior, explained, talking about what runs through her head as she’s on the field. She’s looking forward to the season; she's already getting ready for it.
Baseball is similar to softball, but only boys play it at Dixie. Tyson Graff, a junior, is on the baseball team and loves it. There are so many things Graff likes about baseball, but he has a favorite. “Getting rakes thrown at me by Coach Garrett.” He said enthusiastically.
Last, but not least, is track and field. Track isn’t just about running, it’s also about how much heart you put into the sport and the determination you have for it. Elijah Blake, a junior on the track team, said when he thinks about track it isn’t coming fast enough. “Competition and being with people!” He explains is what he looks forward to for the season.
