Dances are the fun memories we make in high school which we will remember in our future. Emma Pasley, a senior on the Executive Council, agrees that dances are to be remembered, "Once you have a theme its purely studying different ideas, designs, projects; anything
that will make a dance memorable."
Prom being moved mostly deals with state basketball and state band. Mrs. Stucki, the advisor over the exec council, says that since so many people will be gone then there wouldn't be a lot of people at the dance.
Changing the date doesn't really affect the other dances though, "El Cheapo is really easy to plan. All you do is pick something cheap to wear to the dance and you are set. D-day dance is free so it's really easy to plan too," said Chance Aiken, student body president.
Most people agreed it would be better to change the date since some would be gone the same weekend. Planning the dances is a big part. In planning you have to find a place for the dance, decorations if needed, and then the tickets.
Tanner Hafen, junior class president, thinks it's hard to find the same place or another place perfect for the dance in the amount of time they have, "I had a perfect place for prom. When we rescheduled I was lucky to find that I could get the same place for prom on the new date."
Planning is the biggest part in organizing the dances. There is a lot to do. Emma Pasley explains that there is a lot when it comes to dances such as picking a theme, picking a design for decorations, letting the DJ know every bit of information that they need to know,
giving jobs to others in exec council, and it takes up a lot of time. "Each dance that I plan takes about 4-5 months of nonstop brainstorming. My first step is to find the location. Then I plan the theme that best fits the dance. I also spend time studying different ideas that will make the dance memorable.”
"You must have a pretty close idea to what you are doing a month in advance so you can get everything ordered and made in time," Pasley went on to say. "I delegate out jobs to different people in exec and we work as a team to get it all done. Dances can get a little heated, but I think its what it takes to make a dance good. I have to make sure the DJ knows the theme song, where the dance is at, and the set up time. I also have to plan all the treats I want, the center pieces, the decor for that and the seating. I have to make the posters for the dance, make sure the tickets are being designed, and pray like crazy that it will all work out.”
Pasley agrees that it is a big job, but worth all the time, "It is definitely a stressful job, but I love it! To make someone walk onto the dance floor and gasp, makes it all worth it!"
The executive council committee works together. For junior prom, Hafen and his committee do a lot, but the rest of the executive can step in to help when it is really needed.
So when going to the dances be sure to appreciate all the long and hard work that was put into it!
