Dixie High school’s recent hero is named Katie Whicker. She is always ready to complete whatever comes at her and she’s always on top of her game.

Even though she has had more surgeries in her life than most entire schools, she’s still fighting.

Recently, Katie just got back from one of her surgeries in Ohio. She was there for about six months. This amazing girl looks just as beautiful as ever.

When asking Dixie sophomore Jocelyne Chavelas what she admired about Katie her reply was, “She went through a lot of surgeries and she’s still strong.” The impact Katie has on people is very powerful.

One of Dixie’s very own teachers, Mrs. Shaheen, organized a “Welcome Back!” celebration for Katie the very day she came back to school after her long stay in Ohio. There were posters, streamers, balloons, and a ton of decorations in the Sophomore hall.

“My mother was born with a cleft lip and pallet,” said an emotional Mrs. Shaheen. “She has always been the longest living survivor. When Katie moved into my neighborhood, I fell in love with her and re-lived the yearly surgeries my mother had as a child.”

Mrs. Shaheen said Katie is a survivor and her hero. “Besides all of that, I would love Katie no matter what.”

Katie has a huge fan base and people throughout the school love her dearly and admire her. Her story just shows that somebody who has gone through a lot can still come out on top and do great despite all of the struggles.

This ambitious girl has gone through so much and has accomplished more. If you see her in the halls be sure to say hi!

Dixie loves you Katie!
