Opinion: Clothing Blues

Clothing Blues

Since I have been at the Dixie High community I have noticed that people wear a lot of drab clothing.

I constantly see people wearing shirts with certain sayings or fancy lettering, or maybe even more than ten people with the same shirt or pants, but this style of clothing is boring.

Seeing the same things every day can become a downer on society, we're not meant to be zombies with serial numbers on our necks.

It would be nice to see some individuality; people should change their clothing to show their personality.

With the clothing as it is now the only things being said are things like "Oh, hey, I wear a pink shirt with fancy lettering and that makes me special," what and where exactly does the lettering say that you are one of a kind?

Anyone can just buy a shirt with sparkling glitter that say I'm special on the front, and are you really special if you have to have a shirt that states it.

It does not need to be stated; it is implied.

Clothing should be a reflection of our personality, not our status or who we fit in with.

Different styles would also be nice to see, a bigger variety would bring more color and contrast everyday life.

Clothing that is viewed as weird, freaky, or strange should be welcomed.

Look at artists: the reason why they look strange is because they have their personality, values, and views to create a new and unique look.

People tend to make the excuse that they don't have enough money to get this and that, but one could always make modifications to their clothes or even make one's own and all they have to do is say to themselves that they can make their personality show with this.

Personally my choice of clothing would be a Steam-punk-like setting. For the people who don't know what it is, it is a Sci-fi like genre based on a futuristic view using the steam technology of the 19th Century.

Go find out what your genre is. Be an individual.
