SNOW COLLEGE - As
Justin Cummings dove into the end-zone at the end of overtime, a wave
of emotion swept across Flyer nation. They had come from behind in
the fourth quarter, and shocked perennial powerhouse Springville,
41-35!
Dixie
did not have much to cheer about last year. Their 2-7 campaign last
year was the first losing season for Dixie football since 2003.
Projected to finish sixth in region this year, it didn't appear as
though the Flyers would be much better.
But then Friday happened.
The Springville Red Devils, led by quarterback Steve Bate, were
expected to run all over the Flyers. Dixie QB Blake Barney had other
plans. The savvy junior quarterback put up video game numbers on
Springville, going 21-34 with 344 passing yards, 207 rushing yards, 4
touchdown passes, and no interceptions. His favorite target of the
day was Tadd Challis, who pulled in 8 catches for 177 yards, 2 of
them being touchdowns.
