When Valentine’s day comes around love is in the air, but so is the hatred for the holiday.

Some people just treat the special occasion as a reason to buy things for their significant other, and others treat February 14th like a regular day.

It seems that the deciding factor whether people like Valentine’s day or not is if they are in a relationship says senior Creighton Atkin, “The people who have a boyfriend or girlfriend like it, and people without one either hate it or just don’t care about it.”

The gifts of stuffed animals, chocolate, balloons, and of course, roses are being passed around. When the question was asked what you would like to receive on Valentine’s day, sophomore Faithe Felt responded, “Money can’t buy love, but it improves your bargaining position.”

As for some people they think that a holiday isn’t necessary for loving someone. Such as sophomore Mady Clifford said, “I think that Valentine’s day is overrated. If you love someone, you don’t need a special day to tell that person you love them, or buy them things.”

Some people like February 14th for a reason to be with their boyfriend or girlfriend.

“Valentine’s day is just an excuse to go on a date and to be with my girlfriend,” is what junior Bryce Webster said to what he thinks about Valentine’s day.

Then there’s the students who just want to holiday to become even more popular so that there’s no school. “I wish that it was a federal holiday so that everyone could be with their family, just kidding I just want the day off of school,” is what sophomore Hayden Matthews said to what would be his perfect Valentine’s day.

So Valentine’s day can be a controversial day, but no matter how you look at it, the day will come every year.
